Parkland Students: It’s TIME to fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and submit it as soon as possible! Waiting can keep you from getting the State of Illinois MAP Grant, Federal SEOG Grant, and/or Federal Work-Study that you might be eligible for—which run out earlier and earlier each year!
It is definitely worth your time to complete the FAFSA. Most students qualify for some form of aid, and even those who don’t qualify for grants still often borrow federal loans (but only after they’ve filled out the FAFSA!).
Need help filling out your FAFSA online (www.fafsa.gov)? Stop by the Office of Financial Aid and Veteran Services (Room U286) with your tax return copies, your FAFSA PIN (if you have one already), and any other required paperwork.
Also, visit our website for more information on financial aid deadlines at Parkland.
I thought some of you might like to see a few aerial shots of Parkland College I got the other day while flying with James Warren. We were shooting some flight footage to use for some videos we are doing for the Institute of Aviation, so we figured we should check out Parkland College while we were up in the air. (Note: It’s a little shaky now, but I’ll get that fixed in post-production).
Be sure to look for other Institute of Aviation videos coming in the very near future. One will take a look at a student’s first solo flight. Thanks to Sybil, Dave, and James for making all this happen.
As many of you know, MOOCs (Massive Open Online Courses) are becoming quite popular as a new way for people to learn. We thought we might try a smaller version of some MOOCs here at Parkland College, but in a shorter, more quickly digested form. We also thought it would be a good idea to call these Mini-MOOCs. Not surprisingly, someone else thought that too and already took that catchy little name. So, for the sake of not stealing from others, we will call ours…I don’t know, Micro-MOOCs, Microscopic-MOOCs?
How about you just call it what you want for now.
In our first edition, we get an intelligent and entertaining look at a scene from the classic Alfred Hitchcock movie, North by Northwest. If you have seen the movie, this is an awesome companion piece. If you haven’t seen the movie, this short lecture will probably make you want to watch it. Either way, it’s some fascinating insight into filmmaking.
This particular scene involves a conversation, a shooting, and a child who’s tired of hearing gun shots all the darned time. We’ll let Parkland College instructor Matt Hurt explain the rest.
